1964 was a very good year. BMW’s were starting to show up in the US in earnest. Imported by Butler and Smith in New York, for about 10 years they were distributed by Flanders  Company in Pasadena on the West Coast and WVCS had become a dealer. BMW of North America took over in 1970 with headquarters in the LA area. Following is a price list dated January 1, 1964 for new BMW models. The few remaining ones around today are easily worth 5 figures.

If we had a need for a comparison (large boxer motors) to today’s offerings, the closest to the R69 Sport would probably be the R1250RS –  sporty roadster. The R60 would come close to today’s R1250R – roadster. A 2023 R1250R’s  pedigree follows.
    Interesting comparison

All this leads up to is BMW Motorcycles100th Anniversary celebrated this entire year. First announcement of VERY LIMITED 100th Anniversary  units covered the R18 and R9T models. A worldwide production of 1923 units per  special design is causing quite a stir as everybody who collects will want one for their collection. Allocation to the US has not been announced much less to the dealer level..

Unique and subtle recognition is being found on certain models with a “23” located in the design.. As more models are announced we’ll keep you informed.

We’re in the middle of our second weekend of deluge. Windows resealed last week are leaking again, water coming in thru A/C ducting. The building was built in 1950.

It has really aged well, thru multiple earthquakes 1955, 61, 74, 87, 01…
No one out riding; everyone’s safe at home as it should…a time and place for everything.
Keep well, warm, dry and watch out for the younger generation drivers in 4 wheels who don’t think or see.
