Late April 2023 Newsletter

Now is time to start thinking about “where to go” Keeping it simple, we’ll try and list some ideas…some new and some old.

Ever been to a motorcycle flat track race? Locally they disappeared in the 60’s and 70s.  Ascot Park, first named Los Angeles Speedway and later New Ascot Stadium, was a dirt track located near Gardena. Ascot Park was open between 1957 and 1990. Cars, motorcycles and quarter
midget roared around the oval, Gas, exhaust and dust filled the air. Yelling was necessary for communication to rise above the din.

Flat Track Racing (short track) returns on Saturday May 6th.at the Ventura Raceway Tickets at
www.americanflattrack.com.  Should be a blast!

Sunday May 7th 8am come and check out the members of the BMW Club of SoCal at their Meet and
Greet at Rabalais in Santa Paula. Open to the public, these first Sunday of the month breakfasts are the
perfect way to connect or reconnect with local BMW riders. First Sunday Breakfasts change location
each month and the entire calendar of short rides and long weekend rides are featured at
www.https://www.bmwcosc.com/.

Quieter and more serene and for a great cause, Saturday May 20th is the 7th Annual LA County Fire
Department Memorial Charity Ride starting at 8AM at the LA Co Fire Station 126 at 26320 Citrus in
Valencia; KickStandsUp at 10:30am with lunch, music, fundraising at the Classic Route 66 Grill
18730 Soledad Canyon Road followed by a 2-3 hour drive thru the mountains. All for the Widows and
Orphans Fund of LA CO Firefighters.

The WorldWide Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride is Sunday May 21st. Featuring vintage and classic
motorcycles, costumed riders and passengers, this event is held the same day in hundreds of cities
benefitting Mens Mental Health and Prostrate Cancer. Los Angeles details are found at

Open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner, The Bike Shed
1580 Industrial St, Downtown LA Arts District is one of those places where you can get dizzy just trying
to take it all in…The Bike Shed is a restaurant, bar, lounge, motorcycle display show, parts, accessories,
apparel, gear and repair in a large industrial warehouse. Restaurant gets rave reviews, bikes from all
ages of time, music, great gathering place. and open from 11am to 1am. A great place to visit to just get
out of the house and not travel all day!

If you haven’t already planned your next big ride, perhaps some of the above just might be a good place
to begin your travels in 2023.

Before you leave, schedule whatever service is needed, check tires, battery, etc. and plan ahead.
Ride safe…
The West Valley Cycle Gang!
